Hormonal symptoms are whole-system patterns

Hormonal and reproductive concerns rarely exist in isolation. Cycles, fertility, menopause, thyroid patterns, sleep, metabolism, digestion, inflammation, and stress physiology are all influenced by communication between the brain, endocrine glands, ovaries or testes, immune system, and autonomic nervous system.

Traditional Chinese Medicine evaluates this same territory through patterns of menstrual timing, flow, pain, temperature, sleep, mood, digestion, fatigue, pulse, tongue, abdominal findings, and the way symptoms change across the cycle or life stage.

Our goal is supportive and individualized care. Acupuncture does not replace appropriate gynecologic, reproductive endocrinology, thyroid, or primary medical care. It may, however, serve as a useful adjunct for regulation, symptom relief, stress physiology, and whole-body support.

Common Reasons Patients Seek Care

Hormonal and reproductive patterns we commonly support

PCOS Irregular cycles Menstrual cramps PMS / PMDD support Fertility support IVF / IUI support Perimenopause Hot flashes Sleep disruption Stress-endocrine patterns

Hormonal health concerns acupuncture patients often describe

Two patients may share the same diagnosis but need very different care. A patient with PCOS, infertility, menopause symptoms, or irregular cycles may have different stress load, sleep quality, metabolic patterns, inflammation, digestive function, and nervous system tone.

🌙

Menstrual cycle concerns

Patients may seek care for irregular cycles, painful periods, heavy or light flow, spotting, PMS, breast tenderness, headaches around the cycle, fatigue, or mood changes that follow a cyclical pattern.

🧬

PCOS and metabolic-endocrine patterns

PCOS may involve irregular ovulation, androgen-related symptoms, insulin resistance, acne, hair growth changes, weight changes, and fertility challenges. Care often focuses on regulation rather than forcing a single symptom target.

🌿

Fertility and preconception support

Acupuncture is commonly used alongside fertility care to support stress regulation, cycle awareness, blood flow concepts, sleep, digestion, and overall resilience during natural conception, IUI, IVF, or preconception planning.

🔥

Perimenopause and menopause

Patients may seek help for hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, mood changes, brain fog, headaches, joint discomfort, vaginal dryness, and the broader nervous system changes that can occur during the menopausal transition.

A neuroendocrine approach to hormonal care

Hormonal function is shaped by feedback loops between the brain, endocrine glands, reproductive organs, immune signaling, metabolic function, and the autonomic nervous system. Treatment is selected from your pattern, not from a generic protocol.

01

TCM pattern assessment

We assess cycle timing, flow, pain, temperature, digestion, sleep, mood, energy, tongue, pulse, and other body-wide signs to understand the pattern beneath the complaint.

02

HPO and HPA axis support

Care may focus on the interaction between reproductive hormone signaling and stress physiology, including the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axes.

03

Autonomic regulation

Stress and sympathetic overactivity can influence cycles, hot flashes, digestion, sleep, pain, and fertility experience. Treatment may aim to support a more regulated nervous system state.

04

Metabolic and inflammatory context

For PCOS, thyroid-related concerns, and inflammatory patterns, we consider how metabolism, insulin sensitivity, immune activity, sleep, and stress overlap with hormonal symptoms.

05

Pelvic and segmental relationships

Low back pain, pelvic tension, abdominal guarding, hip restriction, and spinal segment relationships may be considered when reproductive or menstrual symptoms overlap with pain.

06

Collaborative care

Acupuncture can complement OB-GYN care, reproductive endocrinology, thyroid management, lab monitoring, medications, nutrition, and lifestyle care when medically appropriate.

Your first hormonal health visit

Your first visit includes a detailed review of your primary concern, cycle history, menstrual symptoms, fertility timeline when relevant, pregnancy or postpartum status, menopause symptoms, thyroid or endocrine history, medications, labs, stress, sleep, digestion, pain, and previous care.

Assessment may include tongue and pulse, abdominal or channel palpation, and musculoskeletal screening when pelvic or low back pain is involved.
